Initiated in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017 and made permanent with crucial changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill in 2025, QOZs were created to provide potentially significant tax benefits to investors who re-invest capital gains into long-term investments into communities designated for economic development.
This solution is useful for qualified investors who have a substantial short-term or long-term capital gain from the sale or exchange of a capital asset to an unrelated person, and a desire to realize them in a tax-efficient manner.
